Regular Furnace Maintenance Tips

No furnace is going to continue to run in an effective, efficient manner if is it ignored. There are a number of things you need to do in order to maintain your furnace so you can stay comfortable during the colder months. Here are a few items to mark on your calendar so you don’t forget to do them every so often.

Change Air Filters

You will need to change the air filters on your furnace at least once a month. It is a good idea to buy air filters in bulk so you can save money and so that you always have a spare filter on hand when you need one. Check the filter every two weeks and change them more often if needed. When the filters are dirty, the fan on the furnace has to work harder and that can lead to failures, expensive repairs, and higher energy bills.

Check Vents

Every few months it is a good idea to check all of the vents and registers in your house for obstructions. You can remove the vents and vacuum dust and other debris from just beneath the surface. If the vents get too blocked, you won’t get the right amount of airflow.

System Tune Ups

It is a good idea to have an annual system tune-up just before the heating seasons starts. Have a professional technician come to your house to inspect your furnace and change out any small items that are worn down.
